Day to day life at Tang
It's a coming and going of customers.
All the time.
Establishing connections is very important, not because I want them to come back again, but because I have some sort of interest inside me.
Interest in knowing them better.
On a Busy day we serve about 400 even 500 different people.
Some of them are looking for coffee, some treats, most of them, food.
But, in a deeper sense, I believe, they’re looking to feel better.
No matter how good the food is, if you don't feel at ease inside of you while in the place you're visiting, you'll probably not be coming back.
Four hundred plus opportunities to create connections.
In just one day.
It's an abundance of opportunities to learn, share attention and spread positivity.
Some are teachers, others lawyers, students, some are very humble, some work for big corporations, some have just become a parent, some are very talkative, others a little shy, some are politicians, some are rugby players, sometimes even Hollywood actors.
But most importantly, they're all Human Beings.
Being able to observe all that happens is very exciting.
There is something about knowing people that excites me.
Not in a sense of knowing what they do or where they live or knowing what car they drive.
It's deeper than that.
Naturally we get to know their names and the connection starts easily. After that, we know their pets' names, their kids' names, they show us photos of family members, we receive the good news of a baby on the way, they share their personal life, share expertise, share tips, share ideas and opinions.
A real connection can be established.
Often none of this happens and the same connection is present.
That is amazing.
It's about giving attention.
And receiving attention.
It's part of the flow.
You don’t always need to know the customers name.
It all happens naturally.
No willpower involved.
Most of the time, that's how I feel working for Tang.
It's a natural environment, no stress, no harm.
A conscious place of work.
It's a very easy place to work, where I've always had the opportunity to be myself.
And because of that, a sense of ease inside of me is almost constant.
There is a very special flow in the business.
Things come and go with very little stress.
At the same time that an amazing member of the team has to move on to another opportunity, a door opens and someone equally as amazing arrives to “replace” the seat. Effortless.
It's amazing. It’s all natural and hard to explain in words.
I’ve met amazing people working for Tang.
It's been 6 years now and the amount of good moments I have shared with different people has enhanced my life. And for me, that's what life is all about. Life is about sharing good moments. It's about living the present moment fully.
And on the other hand, the same flow that works from the inside, also works from the outside.
New customers, all the time.
Amazing regulars, six years making them americanos and flat whites. Flatbreads and salads, granolas and shakshuka.
A big welcoming at the door.
And the energy is contagious.
Good vibes attract good vibes - that’s the idea anyway.
In my experience, you attract exactly what you need for your own growth - physically, mentally and spiritually.
And Tang as an organisation, has its own energy - that includes all members of staff and customers.
Of course, being led by two amazing, conscious and special people. I can't find words to explain how great this all is.
And being part of that is very special.
Everyday is both familiar, fresh and new at the same time.
It's amazing.
All that said, it leads me to a very simple question:
Am I doing what I love?
Are you doing what you love?
I have never planned to be a Barista, not even to work in a coffee shop, but I've always loved making connections. I've always loved learning with other human beings. And because of that, life has always given me opportunities to work in hospitality.
And for some reason, in my present moment, Tang is where I spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week to learn how to be at ease with myself and others.
No matter what you love to do, no matter what form it takes, the most important thing in life is how you feel inside of you when you do what you do.
And, inside of me I feel peace - most of the time.
And I can share that with different people every day - of course, one cup of coffee at a time or teaching others to make that same cup of coffee, as is increasingly becoming my roll.
It's amazing!
I have always believed in conscious organisations where money is not the most important aspect.
The most important aspect of a conscious organisation is how the people who are involved in it are feeling.
In my opinion, giving every single member of staff attention is the key.
Give them love, respect and progression.
Relate to everyone equally.
I've always felt that way working in Tang.
And as I said in the beginning, I truly believe you attract what you believe and need for your own growth.
And, for some reason, I'm experiencing working in a conscious business everyday for 6 years now.
The power of manifestation happens all the time.
Becoming aware of if, changes your way of relating to and exploring life.
Your thoughts and feelings attract your reality.
Realising that has made me a better human being!
And when the organisation has your own capability of creating a good environment inside out - boom!
Magic starts happening.
It's a simultaneous process.
You give every single consumer attention.
You treat them equally.
You treat them with love and respect.
Money starts coming.
It's natural and wonderful.
The flow has started from inside out.
Not the other way around.
And, in my humble opinion, Tang is a conscious business.
The place that has always given me the opportunity to be myself and grow fiscally, mentally and, most importantly, spiritually.
And this all happens naturally when you relate to others in a kind way.
Kindness generates kindness.
It's amazing.
