The Social Foundation - living wage & our pledge

In line with our previously mentioned doughnut philosophy, we want to make sure that here at Tang, we have a social foundation of wellbeing that no one will fall below.

In Ireland, the minimum wage is €10.10 per hour. However, there is another term called the living wage, this is an hourly rate high enough to maintain a normal standard of living.

The minimum wage is an amount set by law, whereas the living wage is based on the concept that work should provide an adequate income to enable individuals to afford a socially acceptable standard of living.

The living wage in Ireland is considered to be €12.30 per hour.

Here at Tang, we’re aware that a huge part of our success is how hard our staff work, we’ve always expected high standards and it’s no exaggeration to say our staff give it their all.

From February 2021, €12.30 is the Tang’s minimum starting wage.

Effective altruism

As of 2021 at Tang we are pledging to to give 10% of all pre-tax profits to effective charities. Our focus will be on environmental and conservation charities tackling climate change and biodiversity loss. We plan to make contact with the Irish Wildlife Trust towards the end of the year as well as charities protecting rainforests in South America and also charities helping integrate refugees here in Ireland.

On top of that we are pledging to redistribute 10% of our profit amongst our staff at year end. We are in the process of putting together a formula on how this will be split based on hours worked and performance in your job, regardless of your level in the organisation, and publish this when it has been decided on.

This is in line with Kate Raworths Doughnut Economics and will help us create the type of working environment we strive for full of passionate, focused and considerate people!
